Binat HaLev Institute

An Additional Layer of Information, Not a Substitute for What You Do

We do not claim to replace a psychological, didactic, or clinical assessment. What we do bring to the table is an angle that the accepted tools do not reach, because all of them, without exception, pass through what the person reports about themselves.

Audiences

Who This Is Relevant For

Psychologists and therapists

A starting point for therapy. Instead of spending the first sessions on mapping, you arrive at the session with a picture of the patterns that the client has not yet put into words themselves.

Educational counselors

A student who is not succeeding, and no one knows why. The assessment separates a difficulty with attention, a difficulty with learning style, and an emotional difficulty masquerading as both.

Career and employment counselors

Beyond the aptitude questionnaire. What a person is really built to do, where they will burn out, and why they get stuck again and again at the same point.

Didactic assessors

A complementary layer to the didactic assessment: the emotional-motivational side that is not measured in standard tests but affects every one of their results.

The professional value

Four Things a Questionnaire-Based Tool Cannot Give

Does not go through self-report

Every questionnaire-based tool is limited by two barriers: what the examinee knows about themselves, and what they are willing to say. Micro-expression analysis bypasses both: it reads reactions that occur within up to a fifth of a second, before awareness has time to edit them.

Works even without cooperation

A teen who refuses to talk, an adult who gives socially desirable answers, a child who does not have the words. In these cases a questionnaire returns noise. A video still returns data.

Saves mapping time

The report reaches you before the first session. What would have taken three or four sessions to reach is on the table on the first day.

Language you can show parents

The report is written in clear language, not in jargon. You can sit with a parent and go through it together, and that is a big difference between an insight that stays in the file and an insight that changes something at home.

Transparency

What This Tool Is Not

We prefer to say this ourselves, up front, rather than have you discover it later. Four restrictions that we keep strictly.

  • This is not a psychiatric assessment and does not constitute a medical diagnosis. It does not replace a licensed evaluation and does not determine the existence of a disorder.
  • We do not issue certifications for accommodations in exams, placement committees, or any other formal procedure.
  • We do not deal with lie detection, with screening job candidates, or with any use whose purpose is to make a decision about a person without their knowledge.
  • The tool is not intended to stand alone. It was built as an additional layer alongside professional work, not in its place.

Collaboration

Three Ways to Work Together

Referring a client

You refer to us, the client orders the assessment themselves, and the report reaches them, and you as well, if they approve this in writing.

Assessment as a stage in your process

For some counselors and therapists we carry out assessments as a regular stage at the start of their process. A fixed working model can be arranged.

A trial before commitment

If you want to see a result before you refer people to it, that is a reasonable request. Write to us and we will find a way for you to get an impression.

Frequently asked questions

What Professionals Ask Us

Do you have a certification or license?

No, and we do not present it any other way. Binat HaLev Institute is not a licensed psychological institute and does not provide a service that requires a license. The method rests on established research in the field of facial expression coding, and on more than one hundred and fifty assessments carried out in practice. We prefer that you judge us by the results and by the opinion of professionals who have tried it, and not by a certificate we do not have.

What is the source of the method?

The theoretical foundation is the work of Ekman and Friesen on coding the movements of facial muscles, which is today the accepted infrastructure for expression research worldwide. On top of it sits a computerized analysis layer, and on top of that, human interpretation. The full details are on the Science page.

Will the report contradict an assessment I already did?

Usually not, and much of its value lies precisely in the cross-referencing. When a didactic assessment, a clinical impression, and a micro-expression analysis point in the same direction, you have strong grounding. When they diverge, that is exactly the point worth looking at.

Who actually writes the report?

I do. The computerized analysis produces findings, but the report is written by a person who reads them in the context of the question the examinee came with. No report is sent automatically.

Can I receive the report directly?

Only with explicit written approval from the examinee, or from the parents when the examinee is a minor. Without that, the report is delivered to the examinee alone.
